We arrived safely at the new house in Colleyville, TX. The Verizon guy was here when we arrived, installing the cable and internet, which makes it a lot easier to post this today. (I've been using my phone for the past 3 days).
The house is nice, and the animals are settling. The dogs were happy to see Art upon arrival, and everyone seems to be adjusting well. They may think this another hotel and are probably wondering when they will go home to the farm. :(  Although, I think they recognize the familiar furniture and belongings and are starting to feel "at home."
The house is nice and my mom and Art have set it up to work well for them. I think things will be fine here. Paul and I will be down for a visit this summer, at which point I plan to put good use to the pool in the back yard! (We may or may not be traveling in a small RV at the time...perhaps another blogging opportunity!?)
I fly back to Maryland tomorrow evening. I will miss my mom (and the animals!?), but I will be very happy to see Paul at the airport and to get home and sleep in my own bed!!
Thanks for reading and "joining" us on our adventure!!

Day 3!

Well, our 3rd and final travel day has gotten off to an interesting start. Loading the car was much faster today, and would have been even faster still if it weren't for the chatty upstairs neighbors at the hotel. They were out enjoying the view of the parking lot and train tracks with a cigarette, and we're fascinated with the pets! Topics ranged from the ages of the animals, to the costs and disadvantages of boarding pets (you know Camp Bow-Wow charges $36 a day, and you don't even know what they're eating!), to whether or not hotels provide guests with bags to clean up pet droppings! Stimulating conversation at 8:00 am.
We made it out of the hotel by 8:30, which is our earliest start yet. We were off into the rainy Memphis rush hour!
We made a quick stop (really just a turn-around at the driveway) by Graceland, with Margo's encouragement (and pretty much constant reminders!). Maybe someday I'll go back and actually go inside!
Now we are cruising down I-40 through Arkansas with less than 500 miles to go! Hopefully we will drive out of this rain soon. Art says the weather in TX is nice. Here's hoping!
For Margo!

Oh good, thunderstorms!

Day 2 Winding Down

2/3 of the way there! 8 more hours tomorrow, and we will arrive.
Today was actually pretty smooth. The animals were good in the car, we made pretty good time, and even made a visit to our old house in Nashville.
Tonight's hotel room has been much easier since we are on the first floor this time. While there is a train track right outside, it seems that it doesn't come by as frequently as last night's.
Hopefully we will get a good nights sleep and have a smooth morning tomorrow. As I'm writing this, there is a very loud train rumbling by outside! :/

Residence Inn loves trains!

This is what we have learned on our trip. 2 nights in 2 cities at 2 different Residence Inns, both with train tracks outside our rooms!

Pit stop

We just stopped in Nashville to get gas and walk the dogs. Stopped by the old house on Carl Miller Dr. I haven't been there in about 34 years! Forgot to take a picture! :(

Into Kentucky!

Reds stadium

Cincinnati.

Carolyn is happy to find out there are Beatles songs on the iPod!

On the road again!

Starting day 2

So far the hardest thing about this trip is the loading and unloading of the car. I thought it took a long time at the house yesterday, but the addition of two locked doors requiring hotel keys, and three flights of stairs has added a few new challenges here in Ohio.
We have been loading the car for about 30 minutes and we are almost ready to go. Hopefully they will still have bagels out in the lobby when this process is finished!

Wrapping up day 1

So, we have arrived in Columbus, OH for the night. Upon check-in we learned that our room is on the 3rd floor, through the lobby, up the elevator, down the hall, and around the corner! Buddy decided he doesn't "do" elevators, and slipped out of his harness and pranced down the hall. After the 2nd trip to the room we found the nearby stairs and outside door, which meant no more circus parade through the lobby. Then we found out that the train runs right by the hotel, so every 30 minutes or so we hear the whistle and the floor shakes! Awesome!
Time for a margarita and bed! Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Dogs

Buddy and Coosie are sharing the seat. Missy, who is on tranquilizers, is curled up on the floor hallucinating, maybe about herding sheep!

1:00 pm Saturday

We left the house about an hour after we planned. We had to make 2 stops in Syracuse before we were officially "on the road."
After Parker had an "accident" in the small carrier, we moved him into the cage with the other 2 cats. He is now curled up cozy in the litter box.
All 3 dogs are in the van!

Coosie doesn't do jumping up!

Buddy is not sure about this.
The cats were secured first. Next, it was time for the dogs!

Countdown to Adventure

So the countdown is on...63 hours or so until my mom and I leave on our "big adventure." That adventure being the moving of her 6 pets from New York to their new home in Texas. That's right, we'll be driving a minivan from upstate New York to the Dallas, TX area with 3 dogs and 3 cats (the ducks and chickens don't get to make the move!)

I'll be posting pictures and comments here on the blog, so if you want to keep up with our progress this weekend...you can check in here! It's sure to be good for a laugh (I hope we're laughing more than crying!!)

Yee-haw!!!
